An emergency meeting of the LLPA board was held 11/12/11 to discuss the snow plowing bids and select a company for the 2011 – 2012 winter season. The road committee recommended Northern Hardscapes because they have multiple trucks, we would be one of their top priorities and they would be here early in the day for overnight snows and would come later in the day for day time snows. Other bids are more expensive or have only one truck. NH will salt intersections, on request only, and charge for the salt only. Alpers will continue sanding because they have done an excellent job in prior years.

The board voted and agreed the Northern Hardscapes contract will be accepted to plow the LLPA roads for 2011-12.

The Peninsula is a pleasant and quiet community of about 195 homes; a great place to live, raise children, or retire. We are only 12 minutes from downtown Traverse City, as well as just a few miles from the Interlochen Center for the Arts, and 30 minutes from Lake Michigan.

A feature that distinguishes us from other communities is the fact that there is only one road onto Long Lake Peninsula. Thus, traffic is slowed and residents are able to enjoy walking, jogging, biking, rollerblading, and even cross country skiing.

This online resource is designed to help you get to know more about the neighborhood and the people who live here. (photo Mike Dow)

Your LLPA board has been working hard to reduce the amount of heavy truck traffic on our peninsula road. If we can get everyone to go with a single waste hauler provider, traffic will be reduced to a single day of the week, with two trucks traveling on our roads.

American Waste gave us a bid for $ 11.75 / month, with the first month free , and guaranteed that rate for the next three years . Many LLPA residents have already switched to American Waste. Have you?

To, to save money for you, and save wear on our roads, your Long Lake Peninsula Board encourages you to call Pat at American Waste at 231-624-1550. Pat is willing to make all the necessary contacts to switch your account to American Waste after your current obligation ends with your current provider. Please call him soon and let’s start saving money and our roads.
